Quartet

Quartet - Altered commemorative plate, 9” diameter

Erasure can be an additive gesture, in that it instigates one to draw from their memory to make an image whole.

Quartet requires the activation of our shared American cultural memory to add the faces of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln to the plate. The limitation of the image remaining on the plate combined with the obscurity of the sandblasted silhouette points to how ingrained particular images within the American narrative are embedded in our national psyche.
